Crazy Faith

Sermon Reflections from Crazy Faith | Alex Hardt | May 25, 2025

This past Sunday, Pastor Alex challenged us to live with ‘Crazy Faith’. Crazy faith is a faith that is filled with obedience, trust and hope in the Lord. It is also a faith that had zeal or passion for God.

Pastor Alex’s first point was that God’s plans are crazier than ours and always better. This is so true! Many times I have prayed and tried to tell the Lord how I think it would be best for circumstances to work out. LOL! When I look back, I would never have thought to work things out the way God did. Why is that? I think it is because God knows all the pieces that are required for the perfection of His plan. We can’t know all the details or what needs to happen first and so on. When we are patiently or impatiently waiting, God knows in His Omniscience what will happen when. I am constantly amazed by God and His perfect timing. At one time my husband was in school but not ‘loving it’ after exiting from the military. We prayed for God’s guidance as to the direction he should go. He heard about an electronics school that would further his military training and was of great interest to him but it was $10,000 for the tuition. That was beyond us for sure and so we prayed and waited (remember that lesson from last week, I’ve done a lot of that). My husband’s uncle was elderly and died leaving my husband, you guessed it, $10,000. This was a detail we had not seen anywhere, an answer that came because of God’s providential care for us. That was an answer we had no idea was possible and yet, God did. He knew how He would care for us.

As you live the Christian life and walk with God, you learn over and over that God’s plans are far better than any we could have devised. Sometimes they lead you to follow His light in unexpected and difficult ways. This is the part that take patience and obedience. Obedience is an expression of love and respect for God. Obedience is something God desires from us to live hope filled and fulfilled lives for Him. John 14:15 “If you love me, you will keep my commandments. The Bible also tell us that obedience to God and His commands brings blessing into our lives. Luke 11:28 “He replied, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.” Life is filled with examples of how we don’t feel we should do something as it contradicts God’s Word and we find out later how blessed we were to not have participated. The Apostle Paul’s life is filled with times he listened to the voice of the Holy Spirit and was blessed with life (during the shipwreck) with friends in all the churches he visited, and inspiration for all his writings (the many letters to the churches). We are still being blessed by his writing and stories today!

So what about you? What type of faith do you have in God? Do you have the type of faith that causes you to run from God like Jonah? We know how his faith ended him in the belly of a whale and then on to Nineveh. Or is you type of faith like David’s from the heart, seeking to live and be cleansed by Him daily? Or perhaps Peter’s faith that was impetuous and bold? God can and does us all types of faith in Him. However, the thing all these faith filled men had in common was a passion for God. The Bible calls this zeal for the Lord. Being zealous involves intense enthusiasm, passion and fervor with a purpose. We can be zealous for many things in our lives like family, work, hobbies, etc. But the zeal of the Lord has purpose and will glorify and honor God. Jesus showed zeal for the name of the Lord when he cleansed the temple throwing out the money changers. Paul describes himself a zealous for the law and persecuted Christians until his conversion. Then he became zealous for the Lord. Titus 2:14 explains that because of what Christ did for us on the cross- we need to react with Zeal that is filled with good works. “who gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works.

One needs to walk with Christ expectantly always knowing God has a wonderful plan for our lives and wants us showing His love and care for others with zeal. He expects a crazy faith from all of us as we walk in obedience to His ways.

Look for God opportunities and glimpses of God’s hand in your life this week!
