Sermon Reflections from Faithfulness | Alex Hardt | November 2, 2025
The other night I was teaching a group of middle/high schoolers and we were talking about what it means to pray in the Spirit. Daniel was our example in Chapter 9 as he wholeheartedly prayed with an attitude of humility not presuming he deserved anything. He appealed to God in his mercy and love to intervene. I would submit that walking in the Spirt involves the same type of actions. You must be ready to humble yourself and acknowledge that He has a plan and purpose for your life. No one can thwart His plans and they are always for our good and His glory. Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Believing this verse and claiming its truth shows that you trust God and are relying on His character.
God’s character is what Pastor Alex was speaking about this last Sunday. Believing in God’s faithfulness and trusting your life into His hands.

Things are always changing in our lives. Jobs come and go, children grow to amazing heights, relationships and our feelings change too over time. But the one thing that does not change is God. His character is immutable, unchanging. Scripture tells us in
Psalm 33:11 ”But the plans of the Lord stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations.”
James 1:17 “ Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.”
Hebrews 13:8 “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” These are but a few of the verses that proclaim to us that God does not change and that he does not change his mind.
Numbers 23:19 “God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?” Why is it so important to believe in God’s unchanging character? If not, we would worry that God would or could change his mind about my forgiveness, my salvation, my eternal life…. It is essential to believe in God’s unchanging character.
Pastor Alex delved into the faithfulness of God this week. To walk with God one must humbly believe that God is faithful and then trust Him. Boy! Are those words hard to live with at times! I want to trust in myself-‘I can do it’, or ‘I know better, the best way to do this’. As we walk with Jesus, indwelt by His Holy Spirit we begin to see that thinking as faulty. Faithfulness is choosing to believe in God no matter what the circumstances. In my study of Daniel, I saw Daniel trust in God, pray diligently even when he knew it would get him into trouble. However, he trusted God and was saved from the Lion’s Den. His trusting brought the king to a fuller knowledge of God. Where is God asking you to have faith, walk with Him, pray and trust Him for the outcome? It doesn’t have to be the magnitude of the Lion’s den, but God wants us to trust Him with our everyday lives. Is your strength wavering? Pray and claim the promises of God in your life. Here are a few that might help: for fear- Deuteronomy 31:6 “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”, for worry- Philippians 4:6 “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”, for money or resources issues-

Philippians 4:19 “And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.”
The Bible is filled with promises to encourage us to walk in faith- trusting God has our back.
Isaiah 49:16 “See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands; your walls are ever before me.”
What does a life filled with faithfulness and trust look like? There are many answers to this but here are a few I try to make sure I’m working towards having them in my life.
· Faithfulness in belief. Stand firm in and on God’s word and believe in Jesus the son who died on the cross for my sins and rose from the dead. He is coming again.
· Faithfulness in worship. The first 4 commandments involve being faithful in worship to God and only God. Going to church is a way to be involved in mighty worship each week.
· Faithfulness in serving. God calls us to serve wholeheartedly the community of believers in the church-locally and globally. God will reward our service. Think about it. When was the last time you served God, how did it make you feel? The goodness we feel comes from God- nice benefit.
· Faithfulness in witnessing. Jesus commissioned all of us to be His witnesses to the world. Acts 1:8 “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” He even provides the power to do this.
· Faithfulness in prayer. We are exhorted to pray continually in 1 Thessalonians 5:17 and to pray for each other diligently. Praying faithfully is to be part of who we are as believers.
· Faithfulness in loving others. We are to do everything in love as we seek to show the love of Jesus to others.
Pray over your own faithfulness and ask God where you need to be more faithful and develop your faith muscles this week!
