Sermon Reflections from Worship the Word | Stephanie and Jose Soltero | January 25, 2026
What a great way to kick off our reading of the Bible in A Year! 🎉 Stephanie told her story of how she came to know Jesus during her college years and how it has been a lifelong pursuit of getting to know and understand God. Learning to read, understand and know the truths of the Bible has been instrumental in her growth of faith in her walk with Jesus. We also loved hearing from Jose and the impact that this reading the Bible in A Year program has had upon him and how it has grown his faith!!
My own story of how I ‘got’ into God’s word traveled a different path and yet God brought both of us to a greater knowledge of Him through His Word. I was in my late 20’s when I first attempted to read the Bible all the way through. I was convinced I needed to do this, but not at all sure I could get it done. I pleaded with God to intervene and give me what I needed to see it though. I learned a lot about God’s faithfulness and my ability to preserve in that year. I made it all the way! Praise God!
It was several years before I decided I needed to do it again. The intervening years I had spent in intensive Bible studies over almost all of the Bible. I had read it, taught it and even written about it. So when confronted with the desire to read all the way- I decided to do it.
You know what?
The next time it was easier, as I knew I could trust in God’s faithfulness. I knew what was coming and did not shy away from passages but met them head on. God was again faithful and it was completed. The next year, I decided to do the New Testament in a year plan. It was great and involved less reading but could be meditated upon more intensely. After several more years of reading through the Bible, I last year attempted the chronological plan. I found it fascinating to see how the passages intertwined and related to one another. Towards the end of the year, Pastor Alex mentioned this plan by Tara-Leigh Cobble and her podcasts and commentary book. I joined in with that as it was where I was and found it encouraging.
Now- this year 2026. This morning I started and found there was a lot of materials provided for in app that I did not know about. If you scanned the QR code it took you to the Bible App. When I opened up the plan I saw lots of things to listen to. They give you background on her (Tara-Leigh) search for truth in studying the Bible, who she met and how she thinks. It is good background.

Be sure to listen to the Book of Genesis Summary- it is done by the Bible Project and is a great jumping off point to see the whole idea behind Genesis. Don’t miss it.
Now you are ready to read the scriptures- I listened to it this morning as the app will read it to you too. After reading the scripture, I listened to her commentary about it. She has good reflections and always leaves you seeing God and why our hope is in Him!
I pray you will give this a faith effort. Don’t let Satan talk you out of it. He definitely does not want us in scripture and learning the truth about God. Satan wants us ignorant, helpless, confused and floundering. God desires that we are strong, bold and living with and in His truth.
Praying you’ll be brave and dive into scripture. God will not disappoint!!
