Sermon Reflections from To Far to Be saved | Alex Hardt | September 21
Have you ever feared that you might sin a sin so big you could not be forgiven? That kind of thinking does not come from God as nowhere in the Bible does God tell us a sin could be beyond his ability to forgive and cleanse. If we thought that way, we are truly limiting God. To have absolute confidence in God’s ability to forgive any sin, we have to know about God’s character- who He is!
God is not like man. He has all of our good attributes- kindness, mercy, forgiveness, joy, and patience….etc. However, God also has attributes that belong only to Him. God is the creator.
Genesis 1:1 “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” God was before the beginning of everything.
Psalm 121:2 “My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.” God is Holy. Leviticus 19:2 “Speak to all the congregation of the people of Israel and say to them, You shall be holy, for I the Lord your God am holy.”
Psalm 92:15 “The Lord is upright; he is my Rock, and there is no wickedness in him.” God is immutable.
1 Samuel 15:29 “He who is the Glory of Israel does not lie or change his mind; for he is not a human being, that he should change his mind.”
Psalm 33:11 “But the plans of the Lord stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations.” God is omniscient.
Psalm 139:2-4 “You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. 3 You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. 4 Before a word is on my tongue you, Lord, know it completely.”
Hebrews 4:13 “Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.” God is omnipotent.
Matthew 19:26 “Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” Revelation 19:1 “After this I heard what sounded like the roar of a great multitude in heaven shouting: “Hallelujah! Salvation and glory and power belong to our God,” God is omnipresent.
Psalm 139:7-10 “Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? 8 If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. 9 If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, 10 even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.” God is incomprehensible.
Job 5:9 “He performs wonders that cannot be fathomed, miracles that cannot be counted.” Isaiah 55:8 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. God is infinite.
Psalm 147:5 “Great is our Lord and mighty in power; his understanding has no limit.”
Isaiah 44:6 “This is what the Lord says— Israel’s King and Redeemer, the Lord Almighty:
I am the first and I am the last; apart from me there is no God.” God is sovereign.
I am the first and I am the last; apart from me there is no God.” God is sovereign.
2 Chronicles 20:6 “Lord, the God of our ancestors, are you not the God who is in heaven? You rule over all the kingdoms of the nations. Power and might are in your hand, and no one can withstand you.” John 10:29 “ My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand.”
All of these characteristics belong to God alone. Since God is all powerful, He cannot be limited. We cannot say that there is anything that is beyond God ability as He created all that there is. You cannot think of anything that God does not know about. You cannot do anything that is beyond God’s ability to control. God’s infinite character brings all into His realm and under His control.
Knowing this about God, how can you think there is something you could do or say that would be beyond Almighty God? Our sins are worldly and exist here apart from God. He is sovereign over all of this world and the spiritual world too. If he says that all sins are forgiven, He means it. Isaiah 53:5 “But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed.”

Hebrews 10:10 “And by that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.” Jesus provided the way to our forgiveness through His work on the cross.
Is there something so grievous that I could do to not be saved by God or that could not be covered by Jesus’ blood? Yes, the only unforgiveable sin is rejection of Jesus as your Savior and failure to repent. If you die not knowing Jesus and being forgiven, you are lost eternally. Repentance is required for the forgiveness of sins. I take great comfort in

2 Peter 3:9 “
The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.” God desires and requires a repentant heart for forgiveness. When we repent, regardless of the sin, God forgives. Admitting we sinned and believing Jesus’ blood will cover that sin, leads to a new life in Christ.

2 Corinthians 5:17 “ Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.”
I pray these verses give you comfort and knowledge about God’s ability to forgive any sin. Repentance and Jesus are the keys. Then all sin can be forgiven, not in ourselves but through Jesus!
